Privacy Policy

Nehru Companion ("the app") is an educational app that lets you converse with an AI character in the voice of Jawaharlal Nehru, grounded in his published autobiography. This policy explains what the app does and does not collect. We designed it to gather as little as possible.

No account, no identity

The app has no login or registration. We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, or any government or financial identifier. To keep a conversation feeling continuous, the app generates a random anonymous ID stored only on your device; it is not linked to you.

What is processed, and why

• Your messages. The text you send is transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our backend and to our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude), solely to generate a reply. Messages are not used to train models and are not sold.
• Conversation notes ("memory"). The app keeps a short set of notes about the conversation — attached only to your anonymous ID — so replies feel continuous. You can view and permanently delete all of it at any time from "his life & writings" → "Delete everything he remembers".
• Microphone (optional). If you tap the mic, your speech is converted to text by your device's own speech-recognition service; the resulting text is treated like a typed message. We do not record, store, or upload raw audio.
• Audio playback (optional). "Read aloud" uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine. No audio leaves your device.

What we do NOT do

• No advertising and no ad identifiers.
• No third-party analytics, tracking, or behavioural profiling.
• No selling or sharing of personal data.
• No collection of contacts, photos, location, or browsing history.

Sub-processors

To generate replies, message text is processed by Anthropic PBC (the Claude API) and hosted on Microsoft Azure. These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments.

Data retention & deletion

Conversation notes remain until you delete them or clear the app's data. Deleting them from within the app is immediate and permanent. Uninstalling the app removes the on-device anonymous ID.

Children

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. It contains no ads and collects no personal data.

AI-generated content

This is not the real Jawaharlal Nehru, who died in 1964. Replies are generated by AI and may be inaccurate or incomplete. The app is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representing Jawaharlal Nehru, his family, his estate, any political party, or any government, and offers no legal, medical, financial, or professional advice.

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the date above.
